About the Work:

The Armed Man “A Mass for Peace” is a powerful and compelling account of the descent into, and terrible consequences of war. Composed by Welsh composer Karl Jenkins as a commission for the millennium by the Royal Armouries in England, it is dedicated to the victims of the Kosovo crisis, a tragedy which unfolded as Jenkins started composing the piece.

The Armed Man is a contemporary example of a mass based on the 15th-century French song L’Homme Armé. The complete work sets sacred and secular texts including Tennyson, Kipling, Malory, Drydon, Swift, The Koran and the Hindu Mahàbharàta within the framework of the Christian Mass in a manner reminiscent of Britten's War Requiem.

The Armed Man received its world première in April 2000 at London's Royal Albert Hall. Following a rapturous performance, the Mass was described as "a firebomb of orchestral and human voices" (The Times) that drew "prolonged shouts of approval from the audience" (The Independent). Since then the Armed Man rocketed to the top of classical charts and has been performed hundreds of times around the world.

If you love to sing and socialize, Amadeus Concerts has started a new singing group - Amadeus Community Singers. Conducted by Scott Wood and board member Carol Cumming. We meet monthly to sing madrigals, early music, broadway and more.  We welcome anyone who wants to sing. Sight-reading skills will help. The goal is fellowship through music and more! We will participate as a choir in the Messiah singalong. Contact Carol Cumming for more info.
