The lyrical and joyful combine in Rossini’s Overture to

"The Italian Girl in Algiers"

and Mendelssohn’s "Italian" Symphony.

Both works reflect the influence of our namesake, so we salute this "Mozart Year" with one of his final works: the haunting Clarinet Concerto, K. 622.
