THE POTOMAC STRING QUARTET : A "conversation among friends," as the string quartet is sometimes called, can be passionate and provocative. From the drama of Beethoven to the cantabile of Borodin’s second quartet and the dynamism of Quincy Porter, the Potomac String Quartet will give you a panorama of the genre.

FOLKSONG AND FOLKLORE : The Amadeus Orchestra, A.Scott Wood,conductor Michael Sheppard, solo piano Last season the Amadeus community delighted in the artistry of Michael Sheppard, who returns to perform Grieg’s masterful concerto. Grieg’s fascination with folk elements is mirrored by Vaughan Williams’s English Folk Song Suite. The concert finale, Mendelssohn’s “Scottish” Symphony, offers a counterpoint to this season’s first concert.

AMERICAN SONATA: The rich tapestry of American piano music is revealed in this eclectic program that melds Joplin, Gershwin, and Jeffrey Chappell’s own compositions. Chappell consistently performs to critical acclaim: “remarkable in intelligence and sensitivity” (Le Soir, Brussels); “Some rise above their colleagues in how well…they communicate” (New York Times); “Chappell came through with flying colors” (Baltimore News-American).
