Esther Tonea

Soprano
Romanian‑American soprano Esther Tonea is a recent Adler Fellow at San Francisco Opera and a Grand Finals Winner of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition. She has sung leading roles such as Rosalinde, Iolanta, and Juliette with companies including Florida Grand Opera, Washington Opera Society, and Bel Cantanti Opera and has appeared as soloist in major choral‑orchestral works. Her current and upcoming engagements include Donna Anna with Opéra Orchestre National Montpellier, several leading roles in European and U.S. productions, and featured appearances in Brahms’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, and Strauss’s Four Last Songs. Tonea is also a frequent collaborator with composer‑librettist team Jake Heggie and Gene Scheer.
