9th Street Quartet

The 9th Street Quartet is the Quartet-in-Residence for 9th Street Chamber Music – a chamber music performance and education program based in Northern Virginia. Since our formation in 2017, we have dedicated ourselves to making chamber music accessible to all, through performance series in intimate venues, and through our 9th Street Chamber Music String Quartet Intensive education program.

The 9th Street Quartet believes that the future of classical music lies in, well, the future! As culture takes a shift towards smaller, more personal, local connections (farm-to-table, local brewed, hand-crafted) we believe that classical music should be doing the same. Our programs are a blend of the old and the new: new masterpieces paired with old ones, traditional forms in intimate settings, experienced listeners with new concertgoers, and experienced musicians with students. We look forward to creating a tradition of commissioning new works from the amazing composers alive today, and building new partnerships with local organizations to help bring the communal chamber music experience to everyone.

Before the Concert

Join Our Community Talks​

45 min before the concert time

Come to a pre-concert behind-the-scenes talk led by our Executive and Artistic Director, which takes place 45 min prior to the start of the concert at the venue. Typically including artists performing on that afternoon's program, these talks offer insight into the music and musicians you'll be hearing from later on. Historical context, demonstrations on instruments, and interviews on the musician's personal journey to the stage are frequent topics for presentation.

Stay for a Post-Concert Party

Our theme of up close musical experiences continues after every concert! Each of our concerts concludes with a reception with the artists, with food donated by our volunteers and wines selected and poured by our reception sponsor, the McLean Wine Outlet. This is a wonderful opportunity for any attendee at our concerts to meet and mingle with the artists themselves post-concert over a glass of wine and light fare.
