About the Artist

Nicholas Wilbur

Viola
Nicholas Wilbur, a violist from Durango, Colorado, holds degrees from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and the Eastman School of Music, and began his musical journey with bluegrass fiddle before transitioning to classical violin and later viola. A former member of the San Juan Symphony and principal player at Eastman, he has performed with leading conductors and participated in prestigious programs including the National Symphony Orchestra Summer Music Institute and National Orchestral Institute. As a chamber musician, he was a prizewinner with the Antigone Quartet, touring internationally and appearing at major festivals. An experienced teacher and author of Violin From the Beginning, he is also active as a composer and arranger, and performs on a 2017 viola by Stanley Kiernoziak.
